How do I know which ketamine treatment is right for me?
During your free 30-minute consultation, our clinicians evaluate your medical history, diagnosis, previous treatments, and insurance coverage. We will recommend either IV Ketamine Therapy, Spravato nasal spray, or Ketamine-Assisted Psychotherapy (KAP) based on what is clinically most effective and financially practical for you.
What is the difference between generic IV Ketamine and Spravato?
IV Ketamine delivers racemic ketamine directly into the bloodstream with 100% bioavailability, allowing precise, minute-by-minute dose adjustments for both mental health and chronic pain. Spravato (esketamine) is an FDA-approved nasal spray indicated specifically for Treatment-Resistant Depression and major depression with suicidal ideation, which is covered by many commercial insurances and Medicaid.
How many treatment sessions will I need?
For IV Ketamine, the standard evidence-based induction protocol consists of 6 infusions over 2 to 3 weeks, followed by personalized maintenance boosters as needed. For Spravato, treatment typically begins with twice-weekly sessions for 4 weeks, tapering to once weekly and then every other week.
Will my insurance cover ketamine treatments?
Spravato is covered by most commercial plans (including Aetna and Cigna), VA Community Care, and Medicaid in Maryland and Virginia. While generic IV Ketamine is typically not covered directly by private insurance, we provide detailed superbills for out-of-network reimbursement and offer flexible financing through Advance Care.
Do I need a doctor’s referral to schedule a consultation?
No referral is needed to schedule a consultation or begin IV ketamine therapy at Avesta. For Spravato covered by insurance or VA Community Care, we will assist you in obtaining the required documentation from your referring provider.
